A Rhythm to the Day

We make time for children to be active and to rest; to play and to learn; to be inside and outside; to be sociable and to have time just to be themselves.

A place for creativity

We encourage children’s creative expression by providing varied resources and equipment like light boxes, overhead projectors and mirrors.    When children at Acorns 2 Oaks are keen to explore and investigate their ideas, their work tends to turn into long-term projects.

Our role is to support the children’s teamwork and creativity, and most of all, gives them time to reflect on their learning.

Safe and Settled

Secure & Safe
We know that you will want to be sure that your child is safe and secure in our care and the safety and security of your child is our top priority, too.    We have staff policies to cover all aspects of health & safety and we train our team to make sure that they follow safety procedures at all times.    We also make sure that all adults working in the nursery are thoroughly vetted and we carry out risk assessments every day.    Our staff  really love working with children and they put the children’s interests first.

Settling into the nursery
Our staff will support your child’s first settling in week in the nursery with great sensitivity.    Our staff at Canterbury Road will happily accommodate and support the child and family to meet their individual needs. These sessions are free to help the child, parents/carers to settle into nursery life. We will happily accommodate your family’s routines and as part of settling in we’ll encourage you to spend time in the nursery – providing you with any information you need.

The Joy of Learning

We encourage children to develop their own theories so they can make sense of the world and to explore their theories with their friends.    We listen to their ideas and take them seriously and we help facilitate their research.    So when one child wanted to build a swimming pool to see if he could make light shine into the water, we made certain he had bricks, torches and plastic sheets and all the time he needed, and his friends helped him too.

We are committed to the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage- this is the national guidance for working with children from birth to five.    So we give children of all ages the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge across as many areas of learning as possible.

The Joy of learning

At Acorns2Oaks we support children’s natural curiosity by providing a wide range of activities and experiences that is underpin by trained professional staff through interaction which is sensitive and adaptable to the needs of all children   One Pre-school Room leader responded to a child’s question raised over lunch one day:    ‘Where do chips come from?’    This prompted a project with the whole group which involved investigating potatoes, making crisps and testing homemade crisp packets to see how fresh they kept their crisps.
